A man identified as Stevie is in critical condition after being shot by police late Tuesday morning on Blue Hills Avenue in Hartford, authorities confirmed.
According to Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert, officers responded just after 11 a.m. to the 600 block of Blue Hills Avenue following a report of a suicidal individual armed with a knife. Officers on scene repeatedly ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he did not comply, Boisvert said.
Police attempted to subdue him with a taser, which officials stated was unsuccessful. An officer then discharged a firearm, striking the man. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities closed Blue Hills Avenue between Tower Avenue and East Burnham Street while investigators processed the scene and urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
Officials have not yet released additional details about the incident, including how many shots were fired or whether any officers were injured. The investigation remains ongoing.
