Authorities in Indianapolis are investigating the death of Traevion Pirtle, an 18-year-old who had been missing for about a week before his body was discovered near a church on the city’s northeast side.
According to police and family members, Pirtle was last seen with individuals identified as Amaari Zachery and Manman 3BK prior to his disappearance. Officials have not publicly stated whether either person is connected to the circumstances surrounding his death.
Body Found Near Church on Northeast Side
The body of Traevion Pirtle was discovered on the night of March 13 behind Fervent Prayer Ministries, located near the intersection of East 38th Street and German Church Road.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the church around 9 p.m. to conduct a death investigation. According to a police report, authorities described the death as “not natural.”
However, investigators have not yet released the official cause of death. Police also said no weapons were reported at the scene.
Pirtle’s remains were located roughly half a mile from where he was last seen in the Briarbrook Village subdivision, near the 3600 block of Cedar Pine Place.
Teen Had Been Missing for Nearly a Week
Police said Pirtle was last seen on March 7 in the Cedar Pine Place area. Authorities asked the public for help locating him on March 9, stating he may have been in need of medical attention.
Family members, including his aunt and siblings, gathered near the area where he was last seen as they searched for answers. Some relatives traveled from out of state to assist in the search.
Family Remembers Traevion Pirtle
According to relatives, Pirtle lived in Indianapolis with his mother and several younger siblings. Family members described him as someone who took on significant responsibilities at home.
They said he was often called “the man of the house” by his younger siblings and worked multiple jobs to help support the family.
Pirtle was also pursuing his passion for music as a rapper and had been planning to attend college in Florida later this year.
He previously attended Lawrence North High School but was not enrolled at the time of his death, according to the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township.
His brother, Gary Pirtle, said the two remained close despite living in different states.“The memory is just so uplifting,” Gary said. “This ain’t nobody that was out here in the streets.”
Investigation Ongoing
Police say the case remains an active death investigation, and details about the circumstances leading to Pirtle’s death remain unclear. A man and a woman are listed in the police report, though their connection to the case has not yet been explained.
Authorities have not announced any arrests.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials say more information may be released as it becomes available.
