A Memphis woman identified as Ashley Kimmons has died after being accidentally shot by a child Friday afternoon in the Hickory Hill area of Memphis, according to police.
Shooting reported near Riverdale Road and East Shelby Drive
Officers with the Memphis Police Department responded to a reported shooting around 2:53 p.m. near the intersection of East Shelby Drive and Riverdale Road.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities said the woman, later identified as Ashley Kimmons, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say child accidentally fired the gun
Investigators said the shooting happened after a child accidentally discharged a firearm, striking Kimmons.
Memphis Police have not publicly released the child’s exact age or additional details about how the firearm was obtained.

Authorities say the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
