Christopher Newkirk Suffers Broken Nose Following Arrest by Broward Sheriff’s Deputies

A man identified as Christopher Newkirk, 41, was injured during an arrest by Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) deputies, leaving him with a broken nose, facial injuries, and cuts to his forehead, according to family members and video footage of the incident.

Arrest reportedly began over traffic stop

BSO said the stop occurred due to tinted windows on Newkirk’s vehicle. During the stop, deputies reported finding Fentanyl, Xanax, Flakka, and crack cocaine in his possession.

Authorities stated that Newkirk, who was on federal probation, resisted arrest, striking one deputy in the face and pushing another to the ground. A deputy was treated at a hospital for injuries to his ankle and wrist.

Charges filed

Newkirk has since been booked on multiple charges, including:

  • Trafficking of Fentanyl

  • Covering his side windows with sunscreen

  • Three counts of resisting arrest

  • Three counts of battery on a law enforcement officer

Family disputes official account

Family members have disputed BSO’s account of events. Reketa Williams, a relative, wrote on social media:

“Planting drugs on someone while they’re on the ground is crazy!!! These thugs in uniforms knocked my cousin’s teeth out, broke his nose, and beat his eye socket, then planted drugs to justify the actions. Throw the entire force in a goddamn garbage.”

Video footage of the arrest, shared publicly, appears to show three deputies on top of Newkirk. At one point, one deputy strikes him in the face with a closed fist, and another is seen delivering repeated blows to his head.

Injuries sustained

Newkirk’s daughter, Chrishelle Newkirk, expressed outrage after viewing the video.

“I can’t keep looking at that. That breaks my heart,” she said.

According to the family, Newkirk sustained multiple injuries, including:

  • A broken nose

  • Swollen, bruised eye

  • Cuts and scrapes to his face

  • Severe gash on his forehead

Ongoing developments

BSO has not yet released additional details or responded to requests for comment regarding the video or allegations of excessive force.

Authorities continue to review the incident, and the case remains under investigation.
