Teacher Miss Qeru Suspended After Viral Video of Learner at Thembalethu Primary School in George [VIDEO]

Teacher Miss Qeru has been temporarily suspended following widespread outrage over a viral video involving a young learner at Thembalethu Primary School in George.

Parents and community members gathered outside the school after the clip surfaced online. The video, reportedly recorded by the teacher, shows a classroom during lunch hour where learners are seated at their desks with pie and cool drinks. One boy, however, is seen without any food on his desk, allegedly because his parent could not afford to pay for the snacks.

The video quickly spread across social media and sparked outrage among South Africans, many of whom criticized the incident and expressed concern for the learner.

School management later confirmed that Miss Qeru had been placed on temporary suspension while the matter is being addressed.

The boy’s mother, Siphesihle Ngxatu, also spoke publicly about the situation. Taking to social media, she opened up about the hardships her family has been facing and revealed that she has been unemployed for a long time.

Following the viral video, South Africans rallied to support the family. According to reports circulating online, about R22,000 has been raised to assist Ngxatu and her son.

The footage that sparked the controversy was shared online by Bae Keerah, who posted the clip showing a teacher filming the classroom during lunch. In the video, the boy appears uncomfortable and hides his face when the camera is directed toward him.

The video went viral within hours, triggering widespread reactions and discussions about poverty, dignity in schools, and the treatment of learners in classrooms.

In an emotional post, Ngxatu described the pain she felt after seeing the clip.

“Oh! bethuna I hate poverty with everything in me. I have been getting calls and messages about my child trending. I saw the video once and I broke down. This has to be the hardest thing that I’ve ever gone through, my child being subjected to bullying because of pie,” she wrote.

Ngxatu also mentioned that a meeting with the school was scheduled to discuss the situation, adding that she would update the public afterward.

The incident has sparked broader conversations across the country about poverty and the importance of protecting the dignity of learners in school environments.
