A tragic high-speed crash in Tucson, Arizona, has left a 3-year-old girl dead and her heavily pregnant mother seriously injured, as police arrest one driver and search for another involved in the collision.
The victim, identified by family members as Anna, 3, was killed Friday afternoon, April 10, after a violent crash at the intersection of East Valencia Road and South Country Club Road split her family’s vehicle in half, according to the Tucson Police Department.
High-Speed Crash Turns Deadly
Authorities say the crash occurred around 1 p.m. when a speeding white Hyundai Genesis, driven by Christian Isaiah Randall, 22, slammed into a silver Toyota Camry carrying Anna and her family.
Investigators determined that Randall and another unidentified driver were speeding eastbound on Valencia Road when the Camry attempted to make a left turn onto Country Club Road. The impact was so severe that it cut the family’s vehicle in half.
Anna, who was properly restrained in a car seat in the back seat, died from her injuries at the scene.
Her mother, who is nine months pregnant, was critically injured and transported to the hospital, where she is now recovering.
Driver Arrested, Second Suspect Sought
Police have arrested Christian Isaiah Randall, who now faces charges of second-degree murder, endangerment, and aggravated assault. He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond. Authorities said Randall suffered only minor injuries in the crash.
Investigators are continuing to search for the second driver involved in the high-speed incident, who fled the scene. Anyone with information is urged to contact Tucson police or call 88-CRIME.
Community Grief and Growing Concerns Over Speeding
A memorial bearing Anna’s name has since been placed at the intersection, as the community mourns the loss of the young child.
Family members say Anna’s mother remains hospitalized as she recovers from her injuries, with a donation fund established to support the family—raising nearly $70,000 as of Sunday.
Local business owners say the deadly crash highlights an ongoing problem in the area. Despite increased enforcement, speeding and street racing remain common along Valencia Road.
“It’s pretty terrifying,” said Frank Bustamante, a nearby business manager. “You can hear the force of these crashes from inside. People really need to slow down.”
Second Fatal Crash in Weeks
The incident marks the second fatal high-speed crash at the same intersection in recent weeks. In a March collision, three young adults—Ashtyn Vandersloot, Antonio Olalde, and Grace Hobbs—were killed. Authorities later reported that alcohol and marijuana were factors in that crash.
Investigation Ongoing
The Tucson Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Friday’s crash, including the role of the second driver who remains at large.
As the investigation unfolds, Anna’s family is left grieving an unimaginable loss, while the community calls for greater accountability and safer roads.
