A tragic early-morning crash in Seminole County, Florida, has claimed the life of a young mother who was carrying her infant in a car seat at the time she was struck by a pickup truck.
The victim has been identified by family members as Destiny Gonzalez, 24, a mother of two.
Mother Struck While Walking Along State Road 46
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred Tuesday morning along State Road 46 near Jungle Road.
Troopers say Gonzalez was walking westbound in the travel lane when she was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 58-year-old man from Winter Springs.
Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Infant Survives Without Injury
At the time of the crash, Gonzalez was carrying an infant in a car seat. Authorities confirmed that the child—believed to be her daughter—was not injured.
As a precaution, the baby was transported to Orlando Health Lake Mary for evaluation.
Driver Remained at Scene
Officials said the driver stayed at the scene following the crash and was not transported to the hospital. No charges have been announced at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
State Road 46 was shut down for several hours following the incident but has since reopened.
Family and Community Mourn Loss
Loved ones described Destiny Gonzalez as a devoted mother whose life revolved around her children.
In a statement, family members said their hearts are “completely broken,” remembering her as a loving daughter, mother, and friend. She leaves behind two young girls.
A fundraiser has been established to support her children in the wake of the tragedy.
Concerns Raised About Dangerous Roadway
Residents in the area say the stretch of State Road 46 where the crash occurred has long been considered dangerous, particularly at night due to poor lighting and visibility.
“It’s a treacherous span of road,” one neighbor said, noting that serious crashes have happened there before.
Investigation Ongoing
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including why Gonzalez was walking in the roadway at the time.
Authorities have not released additional details.
