Cesario Serrato, 56, Out on $0 Bond with Revoked License, Arrested After Drunk Driving BMW into Three Pedestrians in Downtown Denver and Dragging Woman Under Vehicle

DENVER, CO — A horrific drunk driving incident in downtown Denver’s LoDo district early Saturday morning has left a woman fighting for her life and a repeat offender behind bars.

Cesario Serrato, 56, was arrested on June 14, 2026, after allegedly driving his BMW into a marked crosswalk, striking three pedestrians, and dragging a female victim underneath his car for nearly a block.

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of 20th and Larimer streets as local bars were letting out. According to Denver Police Department probable cause statements, Serrato exited a parking lot at 2000 Larimer Street, cut across two lanes of traffic, and made a right turn onto 20th Street, where he plowed into three people legally using the crosswalk.

The impact of the collision threw two of the victims into the air. A third victim was pulled underneath the BMW. Witnesses and police stated that despite crowds screaming that a woman was trapped underneath and officers ordering him to stop, Serrato allegedly stepped on the gas, leaving a trail of blood before becoming stuck in traffic.

Denver Police officers working crowd control nearby, alongside frantic bystanders, ultimately had to physically lift the vehicle to free the trapped woman from underneath the passenger side. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

When officers contacted Serrato at the scene, they noted an "extreme level of intoxication," reporting that he had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, smelled heavily of alcohol, and could not understand basic instructions. He was taken to a hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Downtown Detention Center. A records check revealed that Serrato was operating the vehicle with a revoked license. He has been charged with Vehicular Assault (Offense Code 18-3-205).

Court records reveal that Serrato is a repeat offender with an extensive criminal history involving DUI, fraud, and weapons charges. In January 2021, he was arrested for a DUI in Aurora, later pleading guilty to driving while ability impaired (DWAI). Remarkably, at the time of this weekend's crash, Serrato was out on a $0 Personal Recognizance (PR) bond from a separate incident on February 15, 2026. He currently has numerous open cases in Denver County Court.

As the victim fights for her life, her family has issued an urgent warning to the public regarding a fraudulent GoFundMe campaign currently circulating online. The family emphasizes that they are not affiliated with this current fundraiser and will announce an official, verified campaign soon. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information regarding the incident is urged to contact Denver Police.
