SENATOBIA, MS — A Mississippi community is in deep mourning and demanding answers after a tragic police-involved shooting on Sunday afternoon resulted in the death of a two-year-old toddler.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. near the Walmart located on U.S. Highway 51 in Senatobia, Mississippi.
According to preliminary reports, Senatobia police officers were responding to a reported shoplifting incident involving diapers at the retail store. Law enforcement officials attempted to stop a vehicle that was allegedly fleeing the scene in connection with the reported theft. During the encounter, Senatobia police officer Hunter Foster discharged his firearm into the vehicle.
Two-year-old Kohen Kartier was struck by the gunfire during the incident. Emergency responders rushed the toddler to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but despite the lifesaving efforts of medical personnel, the child tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The fatal shooting of a toddler over an alleged shoplifting incident has sparked widespread grief and outrage throughout the region. Family members, friends, and local residents are actively seeking transparency regarding the circumstances that prompted the officer to open fire.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) has assumed control of the case, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings within the state.
