Nina Lopez has refused to apologize for lying to ICE officers that she was looking for her mother before Laura Murillo was detained in 47 y Western

Laura Murillo, the tamale lady apprehended by ICE today, was arrested Thursday morning while selling tamales at 47th Street and Western Avenue on the city's southwest side.

Information reads: "How sick can you get? Laura Murillo is the name of the tamale lady at 47th and Western, and in the video "Nina Lopez" who lied and stated she was "looking for her mom" said the name was "Genesis Gomez". Then write a post "laughing" at her deception."

Her fiancé Jaime Perez said Murillo, who has lived in the U.S. for more than a decade and has no criminal record, called him around 7:30 a.m. to say immigration agents were arresting her.

She is now being held at an ICE processing center in Broadview. Her arrest may be connected to “Operation Midway Blitz,” an ICE effort that officials say has led to more than 500 arrests since September 1.

Local advocates report that immigration enforcement has recently intensified around the Back of the Yards area.
