Amare Ramey Charged with Murder After Fatally Shooting His Pregnant 17-Year-Old Girlfriend, Amya Finney, in Nashville While She Was on the Phone with Her Mother

Nashville, Tennessee — A 20-year-old man, identified as Amare Ramey, has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide after allegedly shooting and killing his pregnant girlfriend, 17-year-old Amya Finney, inside her Nashville home on Sunday morning, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).

Authorities said the fatal shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. at a residence in the 700 block of Bixler Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered Finney suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen inside a bedroom. She was rushed to Skyline Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

At the time of the shooting, Finney’s mother said her daughter had called her asking to be picked up. During the call, the mother reportedly overheard an argument between Finney and Ramey before the call abruptly disconnected. A separate hang-up 911 call also alerted police to the scene, FOX17 reported.

Detectives later determined that Ramey turned himself in at MNPD’s North Precinct, where he admitted to being present and handling the gun when it discharged. He also told police that Finney was two months pregnant with his child.

Ramey is now being held on a $1 million bond.

In a heartbreaking Facebook post, Finney’s grandmother, Monica Ramey, wrote:

“I lost my 17-year-old grand baby yesterday — killed by her boyfriend. Amya Finney, I love you.”

Police have not yet released additional details about what led up to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
