A shocking case in Montgomery County, Texas, has led to the arrest of two sisters, Brenda Garcia, 38, and Tania Garcia, 37, after a 12-year-old girl escaped their home and reported months of abuse. The child, who had originally sought refuge from an abusive uncle, told investigators she was instead subjected to starvation, physical assaults, and degrading treatment by the two women she trusted to protect her.
Authorities say the girl had been living with an uncle in Houston because her mother resides outside the United States. After alleging sexual abuse by the uncle, she reached out to Brenda Garcia in March 2024, hoping for safety. Instead, Brenda and her sister Tania allegedly subjected her to further abuse for six months. Court documents describe disturbing details, including beatings with belts, cords, and sticks, strangulation with a belt while being told to “just die already,” forced nudity and humiliation, being tied with zip ties, and being starved with only ramen noodles and water twice a day. She was also allegedly forced to eat dirt and hair from the floor and subjected to invasive visual recordings.
On September 28, the girl managed to escape. She was later found with scars across her body, an infected head wound, and signs of severe malnutrition. Medical staff confirmed her injuries were consistent with long-term abuse. She is now safe and receiving medical care and protective services. On October 3, Brenda and Tania Garcia were arrested. Brenda faces charges of injury to a child and unlawful restraint, with bond set at $280,000. Tania faces the same charges plus invasive visual recording, with bond set at $200,000. Brenda has denied wrongdoing, claiming the child fabricated the allegations. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the uncle accused of sexual abuse will face charges. Questions also remain about the role of the girl’s mother, who lives abroad, and why the child was left in such vulnerable circumstances. Sheriff Wesley Doolittle described the case as “deeply disturbing” and praised the child’s courage in escaping, stressing the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable children.
