The disappearance of 46-year-old Britney Gard, a mother of two from Bainbridge, Indiana, has left her family and community deeply concerned after her home caught fire under suspicious circumstances and she failed to show up for a scheduled volleyball game.
According to authorities, Gard was last seen on the night of September 30 around 9:24 p.m. She was expected to attend a volleyball game the next morning but never arrived. Later, on October 1 at about 7:40 p.m., firefighters responded to her residence on County Road 600 North after a 911 caller reported smoke coming from the house.
When firefighters extinguished the flames, they found no trace of Gard, even though her car and purse were still at the property. Investigators later declared the fire “suspicious in nature.”
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, along with emergency responders and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, conducted extensive searches using drones and divers to inspect nearby ponds and wooded areas — but Gard remains missing as of October 8.
