Cordova Police Chief Jason Hare Resigns After Video Shows Him Sexually Harassing Teen Dispatcher

Jason Hare, the newly appointed Police Chief of Cordova, Alabama, has resigned following the release of surveillance footage that appears to show him harassing an 18-year-old female dispatcher inside the police department.

Hare, a married father, stepped down Monday—just four months after being hired. The incident, recorded on August 26, 2025, shows the dispatcher working at her desk when Hare walks up behind her, begins touching her hair, and then leans over her, invading her space. At one point, the video shows Hare pulling the teen’s head toward him and placing his hands around her neck in what appeared to be a “playful choke.”

There was no audio on the footage, but the teen reportedly told a family member afterward that she was “scared to death” and unsure how to respond, since it was her first job. She did not initially file a report; the issue surfaced only after another employee viewed the footage and alerted supervisors.

Cordova Mayor Jeremy Pate issued a brief statement acknowledging the matter but declined to discuss personnel details:

“We take all reports of employee misconduct seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly,” he said.

Pate confirmed that the city’s investigation remains administrative and not criminal at this time.

Hare had been sworn in as police chief in late June, coming from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. Cordova, a small town of roughly 2,000 residents located 30 miles northwest of Birmingham, is now seeking a replacement for the chief position.
