A young woman was killed and a man critically injured in a shooting Saturday night in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood, further fueling outrage over the city’s persistent gun violence.

Chicago Police said officers responded to the 3800 block of West Roosevelt Road around 8:10 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found paramedics providing aid to two victims — a 22-year-old woman who was unresponsive on the ground, and a 26-year-old man already being treated inside an ambulance.

Authorities said the woman had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. She was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly afterward. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified her as Courjanae Unique White, also known by her social media names “Ta’nae” or “Ja’nae.”

The second victim, a 26-year-old male, was struck in the back. He was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where he remains under intensive care.

Well-wishers and friends of the victim also posted tributes, remembering White with love and frustration over the circumstances of her death. “Stop the killing, enough is enough,” one user commented. Another wrote, “Black-on-black crime is taking away our young women and men. Something has to change.”

Police said no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made. The motive remains unclear.
