St. Louis, Missouri – What began as a normal evening for 14-year-old D’Uwan Morgan ended in tragedy when the high school freshman was fatally struck by a stray bullet while playing video games in his bedroom.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 8, at Morgan’s family home on Hobkirk Drive. According to the St. Louis County Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 6:10 p.m., finding the teen suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Morgan was inside his home when an unknown shooter or shooters opened fire outside, and one of the bullets entered his bedroom window, killing him instantly. Two bullets reportedly pierced the glass, shattering it as D’Uwan sat in his room.

“He was minding his business, doing nothing. Just sitting in his room. And now he’s gone,” a family member told WCNC.

Investigators believe multiple people were firing at each other in the area when the stray bullet struck the boy. Several nearby homes were hit, and neighbors described seeing groups of teenagers arguing and scattering after gunfire erupted.

As of October 13, no arrests have been made, and detectives with the St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons continue to investigate the case as a homicide.

D’Uwan’s mother, Keshia Morgan, was home at the time of the shooting. In a GoFundMe campaign, she described her son as “a vibrant, caring young man with a bright future ahead of him.”

“This loss has left an indescribable void in our lives,” she wrote.

D’Uwan had recently graduated from middle school and was excited to begin high school. His aunt, Erica Davis, told WCNC that her nephew “was a beautiful, nice kid,” and that his mother has been left “completely broken” by the tragedy.

“She hasn’t been eating. She hasn’t been sleeping,” Davis said. “This is a horrible nightmare. My family will never be the same. We want justice for my nephew. He didn’t deserve to lose his life like this.”

Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
“You can stay anonymous,” Davis pleaded. “Just help us. Help us get justice for D’Uwan.”
