A heartbreaking tragedy has struck Morgan County, Indiana, after Cheyenne Sears, a 25-year-old new mother, was killed in a freak accident when a deer struck by another vehicle was launched into the car she was traveling in — just five days after she gave birth to twins.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred Saturday evening on State Road 67 near Paragon, about 40 miles southwest of Indianapolis. Sears was a passenger in a Chevy Blazer traveling southbound when a Pontiac vehicle heading northbound collided with a deer. The impact sent the animal airborne into the southbound lane, crashing through the Blazer’s windshield and fatally striking Sears.

Tragic Loss of a New Mother

Sears was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. A juvenile passenger in the back seat was also transported for medical treatment but is expected to recover. No injuries were reported in the vehicle that initially hit the deer.

Just days before the accident, Sears had given birth to twins — a boy and a girl — with her husband, Coty Sears, whom she married in December 2023.

In a heartbreaking Facebook post, Coty shared his grief and love for his late wife:

“To my beloved Cheyenne Sears — as many of you have heard or seen, Cheyenne and Teri and Ava were in a car accident last night involving a deer, and unfortunately my beloved Cheyenne lost her life.

The hurt is so unreal right now. I wasn’t supposed to do this alone. Our babies needed you. I needed you. I wish I could’ve held you closer yesterday. Hug everyone up there for me — I will take great care of our babies. I love you so much, Cheyenne.”

Remembering Cheyenne Sears

Cheyenne Sears served as Assistant Director of Health Services at The Springs of Mooresville, a senior living community. Her employer, Trilogy Health Services, released a statement honoring her compassion and dedication:

“Cheyenne was a beloved part of our community whose warmth and dedication touched the lives of many residents and families. Her energy, positivity, and love for her residents, teammates, and community were unmatched. Her commitment to caring for others will be remembered always.”

Her brother, Zach Nash, also paid tribute to his sister, writing:

“My sweet innocent sister. God couldn’t have made a more perfect person. My family is absolutely shattered. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s reached out — Cheyenne touched so many lives and was loved by everyone she met.”

Community Support and Fundraiser

A fundraiser organized by the Lesley & Rhyan Prather Foundation has been set up to support Cheyenne’s grieving husband and their newborn twins. As of Monday evening, more than $46,000 had been raised to help the family.

The Morgan County community continues to mourn the loss of a young woman described as selfless, joyful, and full of life — taken far too soon in a truly tragic accident.
