A woman was fatally shot outside a Dallas PetSmart following a heated argument that began when the shooter allegedly failed to say “thank you” after the victim held a door open for her moments earlier.

According to Dallas police, the incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, in the 3500 block of West Wheatland Road, located in the Southeast Oak Cliff area.

Authorities say Keona Zachyua Hampton shot and killed Cecilia Simpson after a verbal dispute that began at a nearby Five Below store. Witnesses told police that Simpson had held the door open for Hampton, but when Hampton did not acknowledge the gesture, an argument erupted.

After the exchange, Simpson and a companion walked to a nearby PetSmart. However, Hampton allegedly followed them to the store, where the confrontation continued inside. Employees asked both women to leave the premises.

Once outside, police say Hampton threw a drink bottle toward Simpson’s car, prompting the victim to approach her again. The argument escalated into a physical altercation, during which Hampton allegedly drew a handgun and opened fire, striking Simpson multiple times.

Cecilia Simpson was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Keona Hampton was arrested and booked into the Dallas County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder. Her bond has not yet been set, according to Fox 4.
