A man accused of stealing a motorbike has died after being attacked by an angry crowd in Johnsonville, Montserrado County, on Friday.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect—identified locally by the nickname Baby Dee—was allegedly caught fleeing with a stolen motorcycle before being chased down by a group of riders believed to be associates of the bike’s owner.
A circulating video on social media shows a mob throwing stones at the man during the confrontation. Witnesses say the chase ended tragically when the suspect reportedly fell from the moving motorbike and was fatally beaten by bystanders who accused him of theft.
Police later arrived at the scene to disperse the crowd and restore order. Authorities have yet to confirm the victim’s identity or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Local leaders in Johnsonville have condemned the killing, urging residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to allow law enforcement to handle criminal matters.
The Liberia National Police say an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the death.
