Neuffen, Germany — Authorities have detained a man identified as an asylum seeker from Togo after he was filmed walking naked through the streets of Neuffen, a small town in southern Germany.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident caused panic among residents after the man allegedly damaged vehicles and struck at storefronts during the disturbance. Local reports indicate that multiple witnesses intervened before police arrived at the scene.
One resident, Alexander S., told Bild newspaper that “the man ran naked through the town, smashing cars, and banging on glass doors behind which shopkeepers and their customers had barricaded themselves.”
Another witness, Ahmad H., claimed he saw the man assault an elderly passerby. “The naked man pushed the man to the ground and hit him. I then armed myself with a street traffic sign and ran over,” he said.
The two men reportedly restrained the individual until officers from the Reutlingen Police Department arrived and took him into custody.
Neighbors told reporters that the same man had previously been involved in several incidents in the area, with police often called to address disturbances.
Authorities have since confirmed that the individual was admitted to a psychiatric institution for evaluation. However, a police source cited by Bild suggested that he may be released once medical assessments are completed.
The case has sparked renewed discussion about public safety and how German authorities handle repeat offenders within the asylum system.
