Authorities in Robeson County, North Carolina, are investigating a mass shooting at a Halloween house party that left two people dead and 11 others injured early Saturday morning near Maxton.
According to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were initially responding to a noise complaint at a home on 298 Dixon Drive when multiple 911 calls came in reporting gunfire around 1:15 a.m.
The victims were identified as Jessie Locklear Jr., 49, and Nehemiah Locklear, 16, both of Lumberton. They were pronounced dead at the scene, located at the end of a dirt road in a rural neighborhood.
Officials said the remaining 11 victims, ranging in age from 17 to 43, suffered varying injuries. Several remain hospitalized, including one person in critical condition, while others have been treated and released.
Deputies estimate that more than 150 people fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, with reports suggesting over 300 attendees were present — including dozens of underage guests and pre-teens.
The event, promoted on social media as the “Dirt Road Halloween Party,” featured the tagline “Ain’t no party like the dirt road party.” Flyers advertised BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) and a “free PJ” theme.
Sheriff Burnis Wilkins condemned the violence, calling it a “senseless act of gun violence” and expressing concern about the mix of teenagers, alcohol, and firearms at the large unpermitted gathering.
“This was yet another senseless act of gun violence that has taken the lives of two individuals and left many others seriously injured,” Wilkins said. “What makes this even more disturbing is the involvement of teenagers, alcohol, and guns.”
Authorities are still searching for suspects, with no arrests made and no known motive at this time. Wilkins noted that while some witnesses are cooperating, others are not — a common challenge in large-scale incidents.
