Retyit Haruna Burns Her Husband, Lt. Dr. Samson Haruna, Alive in Akwa Ibom [PHOTOS]

A tragic domestic incident has left the Wellington Bassey Barracks community in shock after Retyit Haruna allegedly burned her husband, Lt. Dr. Samson Haruna, alive during a violent dispute in Akwa Ibom State.

According to reports, the couple’s argument turned deadly on September 22, 2025, inside their residence at the Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area. Witnesses said the confrontation escalated until Retyit allegedly poured petrol (PMS) on her husband and set him on fire.

Lt. Haruna, who served as a medical doctor and the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) with the 6 Battalion, suffered severe burns. He was first treated at the Military Reference Section (MRS) in the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) for advanced medical care.

Despite doctors’ best efforts, the officer succumbed to his injuries. His death has thrown both the military and local community into mourning.

Security sources confirmed that Mrs. Retyit Haruna has since been arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue. The Nigerian Army has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

Lt. Haruna was described by colleagues as a dedicated officer and compassionate doctor, making his death a heartbreaking loss to the regiment and his family.
