Cordova, Alabama — Cordova Police Chief Jason Hare has resigned following the release of a surveillance video allegedly showing him inappropriately touching an 18-year-old female employee inside the department’s offices.
The victim’s family told reporters that the young woman was terrified during the incident and initially afraid to report it. Weeks later, another coworker reportedly saw the video footage, checked on the young woman’s wellbeing, and reported the incident to city officials.
Following the internal review and public backlash, Chief Hare resigned from his position.
The case has since drawn widespread reaction online — including from Hare’s wife, Fallon Hare, who acknowledged and expressed distress over the circulating footage.
Cordova Mayor Jeremy Pate addressed the situation in a public statement:
“Only thing I can say is that nobody wants to be in a position like that. Flesh is weak. People get caught up in stuff sometimes that they don’t intentionally or don’t necessarily want to do. I’m not making excuses for anybody; I’m just saying everybody gets caught up in situations that aren’t good situations. So, we need to make sure we are keeping ourselves in positions that are professional and doing the right things.”
City officials have not released the footage publicly but confirmed that the matter was handled internally after the report was made.
The Cordova Police Department has not yet commented further, and it remains unclear whether criminal charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
