Tragic reports emerging from Bandar Utama, Malaysia, indicate that 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen was fatally attacked by a male schoolmate after allegedly rejecting his romantic confession.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect — said to be armed with multiple knives, including a karambit — cornered Yap inside the school’s female restroom before repeatedly stabbing her.
A student witness told the New Straits Times that the boy had confessed his feelings to Yap earlier, but she declined, saying she did not feel the same way. Moments later, the suspect allegedly followed her into the toilet and attacked her in one of the cubicles.
“He was holding a knife and had her trapped inside. Then he started stabbing her repeatedly,” the student recounted, speaking under anonymity.
A nearby friend of the victim reportedly ran to alert a discipline teacher. The teacher rushed to the scene and attempted to break down the toilet door.
“After several tries, she finally managed to open it, but the boy escaped and began chasing other students with the knife,” another student said.
Panic broke out as terrified students ran from classrooms while the suspect, described as covered in blood, continued to threaten others. The situation was eventually brought under control when several teachers and the suspect’s older brother intervened and managed to restrain him.
“His brother grabbed the knife after struggling with him while teachers tried to calm him down,” said a witness.
Authorities are currently investigating the case, and the suspect is in custody. Police have yet to issue an official statement regarding charges or the motive behind the attack.
