Tragedy struck Friday morning in Henderson, Nevada, when an 11-year-old boy was killed in a road rage shooting while being driven to school by his stepfather.
According to the Henderson Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Interstate 215, approximately 16 miles south of Las Vegas. Tyler Matthew Johns, 22, was arrested after firing a gunshot that struck the boy in the back seat of the family vehicle.
Police reported that the confrontation began when one of the drivers attempted to pass the other on the shoulder, leading to a verbal exchange. Following the shooting, the boy’s stepfather reportedly rammed Johns’ vehicle, causing both vehicles to stop in the middle of the freeway. Both men exited their cars and engaged in a heated confrontation before law enforcement arrived.

Homicide detectives charged Johns with open murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. Police Chief Reggie Rader described the shooting as a “senseless act” and urged the community to exercise caution and patience on the roads.
Johns is currently being held at the Henderson Detention Center without bond. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
