Daughter of Slain Eastpointe McDonald’s Manager Jennifer Harris Arrested for Bringing Knife to Courtroom During Preliminary Hearing for Suspect Afeni Badu Muhammad

The daughter of slain Eastpointe McDonald’s manager Jennifer Harris was arrested after attempting to bring a knife into a courtroom during the preliminary hearing of the woman charged with her mother’s murder.

The incident occurred on Friday during the hearing for 26-year-old Afeni Badu Muhammad, accused of fatally stabbing Harris, 39, while she worked at the Eastpointe McDonald’s earlier this summer.

The relative has been identified on social media as Antonia Griffin, 17, the eldest daughter of Jennifer Harris. Authorities say Griffin was taken into custody after attempting to re-enter the courthouse with a knife following a brief exit. The disruption happened shortly after she had viewed surveillance video showing her mother allegedly being stabbed.

Social media speculation suggested that Griffin may have sought to avenge her mother’s death. Earlier statements from Griffin reflected the pain of her loss: “Why take our momma from us? You knew we loved each other.” Following the courtroom incident, the family was barred from returning for the remainder of the hearing.

Afeni Muhammad sits during her preliminary examination for allegedly killing her manager, Jennifer Harris, at a McDonald's restaurant on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, at 38th District Court in Eastpointe.
During the Friday hearing, prosecutors detailed that Muhammad allegedly stabbed Harris up to 15 times with a kitchen knife, later found in the suspect’s car. The blade measured over three inches. Macomb County Prosecuting Attorney Kumar Palepu said, “Even though Jennifer Harris had collapsed on her back bleeding, the defendant intended to finish the job on the ground.”

Court proceedings included interrogation video footage in which Muhammad showed no remorse, stating that Harris had “bullied her at work” and adding, “I feel better.”

Michigan State Police reported responding to the McDonald’s on 9 Mile in Eastpointe on July 10 after receiving reports of a stabbing. They found Harris injured and Muhammad restrained by a customer at gunpoint. Officials noted that another employee involved in a prior argument with Harris had been sent home early that morning.

A forensic report determined Muhammad competent to stand trial. She faces charges of First Degree Premeditated Murder, carrying a mandatory life sentence without parole, and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Unlawful Intent, a five-year felony. The preliminary exam is scheduled for November 14, with the next court appearance set for December 2.
