The parents and grandmother of an eight-year-old boy found dead in a freezer at a Lynwood apartment in California have been charged with his murder and torture, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities identified the victim as Isaiah H., who was initially reported to be seven years old.

The boy’s mother, Destiny Luckie Harrison, 25, his father, Daniel Alberto Monzon, 25, and his paternal grandmother, Ana Zarceno-Carcamo, 45, have each been charged with murder, torture, and willful cruelty to a child. Prosecutors said the three were expected to be arraigned Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Deputies discovered Isaiah’s body inside a freezer Tuesday evening during a welfare check at an apartment on the 3100 block of Euclid Avenue, following a request from a concerned resident. Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department pronounced the boy dead at the scene. The cause of death has not yet been determined pending autopsy results, though investigators believe Isaiah suffered prolonged abuse before dying.

According to prosecutors, the child’s mother, father, and grandmother were all detained at the apartment. Three other children, aged 16, 14, and 9 months, were found in the home and have been taken into protective custody by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.

In a public statement, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office called the case “horrific,” saying, “The abuse that Isaiah endured is made even worse by the fact that, as alleged, it was at the hands of the people who were meant to love and protect him. Our office is committed to ensuring that those responsible are held fully accountable and that justice will be secured for Isaiah.”

Court documents allege that Isaiah had been abused over an extended period by his parents and grandmother. Investigators believe the child died on October 24, and that his body was placed in a cooler filled with ice before being discovered several days later.

All three suspects are being held on $2 million bail each. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said there had been no prior calls or reports concerning the apartment before the boy’s body was found.

Neighbors expressed shock following the arrests, describing the family as quiet and seemingly ordinary. “Nothing appeared to be wrong,” said Christian Torres, a neighbor who told NBC4 he frequently saw the mother walking her dog and exchanging greetings. “Nothing appeared out of the ordinary,” he added.
