Five People, Including Three Children, Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Colorado Highway 83 Near Franktown

Five people—including three children—were killed Monday afternoon in a devastating multi-vehicle crash on Colorado Highway 83 near Franktown, according to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. when a southbound Toyota hatchback suddenly lost control, veered off the right shoulder, and rolled into the northbound lane. Investigators say the driver, a 31-year-old Denver man, was operating a stolen vehicle reported carjacked about an hour earlier at the Nine Mile Station RTD parking structure in Aurora. He was ejected during the rollover and pronounced dead at the scene.

Head-On Collision Kills Four in Ford Sedan

After crossing into oncoming traffic, the Toyota struck a northbound Ford sedan head-on. Inside were an adult male driver and five juveniles. The driver and three children—ages 8 to 12—died at the scene, CSP said.

Two other juveniles, ages 13 and 14, were airlifted to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities noted that none of the four children in the backseat were wearing seat belts. All six occupants of the sedan were residents of Colorado Springs.

Following the head-on crash, the Toyota also collided with a Ford pickup truck. The driver of that vehicle was not injured.

Victims Identified Through Online Fundraisers

While officials have not yet released the victims’ names pending notification of next of kin, online fundraisers identified the deceased as:

  • Alvin Corado, 35

  • Toretto Corado, 8

  • Makenlee Corado, 12

  • Jase Green, 12

The two surviving children were identified as:

  • Mia Corado, 13

  • Jordan Green, 14

Separate fundraisers have since been created—one for Marissa Corado, mother of Toretto and Makenlee, and another for Jennifer Watkins, mother of Jase and Jordan and fiancée of Alvin.

Cause of Crash Under Investigation

Officials have not yet determined what caused the Toyota hatchback to lose control before crossing into oncoming traffic. The state’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.

The Douglas County Coroner will release the official identities of all deceased victims once families have been notified.

As of Monday night, Highway 83 remained closed for crash investigation and cleanup. Drivers were urged to use alternate routes until the roadway is reopened.
