A domestic shooting in Lafayette left one man dead and a woman in critical condition Saturday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Gard Circle, a neighborhood near I-49 South and Gloria Switch Road.
Kevin Leblanc, 31, of Lafayette, was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers, according to the Lafayette Police Department. The woman involved was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations suggest the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. Police reported that Leblanc and the woman, who were in a relationship, were involved in a verbal argument that escalated. Leblanc reportedly pulled out a firearm, shot the woman, and then turned the gun on himself, resulting in his death.
The Lafayette Police Department emphasized that the incident is being treated as a case of domestic violence and urged anyone in an unsafe situation to seek help. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting and have maintained a strong presence in the area to gather additional details.
