Two Teenagers Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on State Route 165 in Providence

Two teenagers tragically lost their lives Saturday evening in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 165 in Providence, Utah, authorities confirmed.

The crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. and involved a northbound Toyota Corolla and a southbound Toyota Sienna minivan, according to Utah Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Davies Sanchez.

The driver of the Corolla, 17-year-old CJ Fiefia of Avon, lost control of the vehicle, crossing into oncoming traffic where it collided with the minivan. Fiefia was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year-old female passenger, Xylie Hutchinson of Hyrum, was critically injured and later died at a hospital due to her injuries.

Three other teenagers riding in the Corolla were critically injured, with one airlifted for emergency care and two others transported by ambulance. The minivan carried five occupants, including two adults and three children, who sustained minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital.

Sanchez said the Corolla struck the front of the minivan before rolling over, and three of the five occupants were ejected from the vehicle. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with speed being considered a possible factor.

The Logan Police Department, Logan Fire Department, Cache County Sheriff’s Office, and other agencies responded to the scene. The crash caused traffic blockages at milepost 9 on southbound SR-165.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact the Utah Highway Patrol.
