Georgia authorities have arrested Delano Middleton, a 48-year-old man with a history of violent offenses, in connection with the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old J.T. Schroeder outside a Walmart in Chatham County. The deadly altercation reportedly began after Middleton claimed the teenager had kicked his shopping cart.
According to the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), the incident occurred on Thursday, October 23, outside the Walmart store on Highway 80. Investigators say Middleton had just exited the store with a shopping cart when an exchange with Schroeder escalated into violence. Witnesses reported seeing Middleton stab the teen multiple times during the confrontation.
Schroeder was rushed to a local hospital, where he remained on life support until succumbing to his injuries the following day, according to WJCL News.

The victim’s father has publicly disputed Middleton’s version of events, insisting that his son was not the aggressor.
“My son was never, ever confrontational unless he was confronted first,” Schroeder’s father told reporters. “I got over there as fast as I could and saw blood everywhere. He was literally stabbed over ten times until he finally bled out and died.”
In the hours after the attack, friends and loved ones gathered at the hospital, wearing shirts, bracelets, and stickers in Schroeder’s memory as they said their goodbyes. His father shared that his son was an organ donor, and a hero’s walk was planned for Friday before his organs were donated to save others.
Court records show that Delano Middleton is a repeat criminal offender, with previous arrests for aggravated assault, battery, and weapons charges in both 2021 and 2023.
Middleton is currently being held at the Chatham County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
