Two people were found dead in Akron, Ohio, in what authorities are investigating as a murder–suicide involving a couple known locally as Shanel “Suchalady” Greer and James “Bubba” Sanders. The tragedy unfolded late Saturday night, November 21, after officers responded to reports of gunfire at a home in the 1200 block of Dietz Avenue.
Inside the residence, Akron police discovered 45-year-old Shanel Greer suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Nearby, officers located James Sanders, widely known in the community as “Bubba James,” also dead from what investigators described as obvious gunshot trauma. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives believe Sanders shot Greer before turning the weapon on himself. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting autopsies to finalize the official cause and manner of death. Police have not released additional details and remain tight-lipped as the investigation continues.
The sudden loss has devastated friends, neighbors, and loved ones of Greer, who was remembered as a kind, warmhearted woman known for her positivity and generosity. Multiple community gatherings and memorial events have already been organized in her honor, reflecting the deep impact she had on those around her.
The Akron Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit spent hours processing the scene, interviewing neighbors and potential witnesses as they work to understand what may have led to the deadly domestic incident. Authorities have not disclosed whether there were previous police calls or known warning signs in the couple’s relationship.
The incident adds to a growing number of domestic-violence-related deaths across Ohio this year, prompting renewed calls from advocates and community leaders for expanded intervention resources, prevention programs, and survivor support services.
Officials say additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
