Virginia authorities are searching for Travis L. Turner, the head football coach at Union High School, who mysteriously disappeared last week in the middle of an undefeated season. His disappearance comes as police are conducting an ongoing criminal investigation involving the school.

Turner, 46, of Appalachia in Wise County, was reported missing on Thursday. According to Football Scoop, Virginia State Police were on their way to speak with him at his home—not to arrest him—when they discovered he was no longer there.

State police said Turner was last seen walking into the woods near his residence, prompting an immediate multi-agency search effort. Teams focused much of the search around his home, but as of Monday, Turner remained unaccounted for.

Authorities have released limited information about the broader investigation but confirmed that agents from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Wytheville Field Office are in the early stages of a criminal case involving a man from Wise County.
