A disturbing case out of Wyoming has ignited outrage after Allie Erspamer, the 19-year-old daughter of Rock Springs Police Chief Bill Erspamer, was charged with felony animal abuse for allegedly poisoning her former best friend’s dog with antifreeze earlier this year.
Erspamer is accused of killing Lily, a pit bull owned by her ex-roommate and former best friend, Hallie Blake, 19. The alleged poisoning took place in April shortly after Erspamer moved out of their shared home following an argument over bills.
According to Sweetwater County Sheriff’s investigators, Blake contacted authorities when Lily suddenly began suffering “unexplained” seizures. The dog quickly deteriorated — collapsing, vomiting, and eventually going into kidney failure. A veterinarian later told the Blake family that Lily’s symptoms were consistent with poisoning.
“We paid thousands of dollars in vet bills trying to get her saved,” Hallie’s mother, Shalane Blake, told local media.
Court documents revealed that Lily had indeed been poisoned with antifreeze, confirmed through a necropsy performed at the State Veterinary Crime Lab in Laramie. The results aligned with concerns raised by the vet, who ultimately recommended euthanasia due to the severity of the dog’s condition.
The investigation quickly turned toward Erspamer, who had previously been bitten by Lily in March — a claim the Blake family doubted. According to records obtained by Sweetwater Now, Erspamer had repeatedly expressed distaste for the dog since moving in with Blake in January 2025, just weeks after Lily’s adoption.
Digital evidence further implicated Erspamer. Snapchat messages allegedly show her telling someone she had given Lily treats “sprayed with bleach” and discussing how to avoid detection. Even more damning were her searches on Snapchat’s AI assistant, which included:
-
“can an autopsy on a dog show antifreeze poisoning?”
-
“what about bleach?”
-
“how long would it take for bleach to kill a dog?”
In September, a friend of Erspamer was briefly charged with accessory after the fact, though the case was dismissed without prejudice. Erspamer herself was formally charged in October and later released on bond. Due to her father’s position as Rock Springs’ police chief, the case is being overseen by an outside judge and prosecutor to avoid conflicts of interest.

Allie's father, Bill Erspamer, is the police chief of Rock Springs. Due to his position, the case will be prosecuted by a county attorney from a different district |
Despite the anger surrounding the case, Hallie Blake insists the defendant’s father should not be blamed for his daughter’s alleged actions.
“One thing I feel strongly about is how much hate her dad is getting,” Blake said. “I understand that headlines saying ‘chief of police’s daughter’ catch the eye, but Bill’s always been great to me. And I know Bill’s a good person.”
However, whether his daughter, Allie Erspamer, is a good person — or the kind of “best friend” anyone would want — is a question echoing across comment sections and social media as the disturbing details continue to emerge.
