Conflicting accounts emerged following a violent incident outside a court building involving Carlos Losos Way and individuals connected to Romeca Meeks, according to information circulating from authorities and social media.
Initial reports shared online claimed that Way was involved in a physical altercation with Meeks’ brother outside the courthouse. Authorities have not publicly identified all individuals involved, but social media users later identified Romeca Meeks as the woman who was critically injured during the incident.
The shooting occurred shortly after 9 a.m. in the 2200 block of South State Street near Cermak Road, according to reports. Meeks had reportedly just dropped off her son and was on her way to work when the confrontation took place.
Accounts shared online state that a physical fight broke out, during which Meeks was restrained. During the altercation, a firearm was discharged, and Meeks was struck in the face at close range. She was transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Social media commentary has alleged that the shooter previously had a restraining order involving Meeks, raising questions about why the parties encountered one another outside the school and court area that morning. Authorities have not publicly confirmed those claims.Video footage reportedly captured in the immediate aftermath shows a woman identifying herself as having a concealed carry license, while Carlos Losos Way is heard stating that he and his current girlfriend acted in self-defense as police arrived on scene.
Law enforcement officials have not yet released a full statement detailing the sequence of events, nor have they confirmed charges or the legal status of those involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
