Dominique Bowie, Jaquan Lamb Killed in Fiery Mesa Crash That Injured Police Officers

A high-speed crash in Mesa early Saturday morning claimed the lives of 39-year-old Dominique Bowie and 17-year-old Jaquan Lamb, while injuring eight others, including three police officers who were hurt during rescue efforts.

The collision occurred just before 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 13 along Southern Avenue near Dobson Road, according to Mesa police. Investigators said a westbound vehicle traveling at an excessive speed rear-ended a second car as it was exiting a private driveway.

The impact caused the struck vehicle to burst into flames, engulfing it as first responders arrived on scene. Officers immediately rushed to pull occupants from the burning wreckage despite intense heat and smoke. Three Mesa police officers suffered minor injuries and smoke inhalation during the rescue and were treated and released from local hospitals.

Police identified the driver of the speeding vehicle as Dominique Bowie, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Jaquan Lamb, a 17-year-old passenger in the second vehicle, later died from his injuries.

Five additional passengers from the second car were transported to hospitals with minor injuries and were later released.

Teen Victim Remembered

A GoFundMe fundraiser identified Jaquan Lamb as a senior at Red Mountain High School, just months away from graduation.

“Jaquan was truly one of a kind,” the fundraiser stated. “His smile could light up any room, and his presence made people feel welcomed and loved. He was a gentle giant with a heart as big as his personality.”

The fundraiser was launched to assist with funeral and memorial expenses and support the teen’s family. As of Tuesday, more than $4,500 had been raised.

The crash remains under investigation by Mesa police.
