Jazzlyn “Jazzy” Jacobs Among 2 Deer Creek High School Students Killed in Logan County Crash; London Mitchell Critically Injured

The Deer Creek and Logan County communities are mourning after a tragic single-vehicle crash Monday night claimed the lives of two Deer Creek High School students and left two others injured, one critically.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, four teenage girls were traveling westbound in a small Chevrolet pickup truck on Charter Oak Road near May Avenue around 8 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a bridge guardrail, and plunged into a creek bed.

“Out of that collision, there were two fatalities, one critically injured and one with minor injuries,” said Lt. Mark Southall with OHP.

Authorities said the 17-year-old driver and one passenger survived, while two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims’ ages were 17, 16, 16, and 14. Because the victims are juveniles, officials said not all names would be released.

Victims Identified by Families

The family of one of the deceased victims identified her as Jazzlyn “Jazzy” Jacobs. Her mother described her as kind, caring, and ambitious, sharing that Jazzlyn dreamed of attending cosmetology school and one day becoming a veterinarian.

The family of London Mitchell confirmed she is the student in critical condition and asked the community for prayers as she continues to fight for recovery.

“Our daughter, London, remains in critical condition, and we are asking for continued prayers as she fights to heal,” the family said in a statement. “Our hearts are broken for the Deer Creek families who have lost their precious daughters.”

Investigation Ongoing

A preliminary crash report indicated that some of the teens were wearing seat belts while others were not. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The cause remains under investigation as troopers continue to collect evidence.

Stephanie DeMoor, who knew the victims, described the girls as close-knit and inseparable.

“They did everything together,” DeMoor said. “They were sweet and innocent girls.”

School District Responds

Deer Creek Public Schools released a statement confirming all four were high school students and announcing additional support services for students and staff.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the news that four of our high school students were involved in a significant car accident last night,” the district said. “Our hearts are with the families, friends, and all those affected by these tragic losses.”

Counselors and support staff have been made available on campus, and after-school activities were canceled as the community grieves.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
