Former WBRC 6 sports reporter Christina Chambers and her husband, Johnny Rimes, were found dead Tuesday morning at their home in Hoover, Alabama, in what police believe was a suspected murder-suicide. The couple’s 3-year-old son was also at the residence and was found unharmed, authorities confirmed.
Hoover police responded to the home shortly after 9 a.m. and discovered Chambers and Rimes deceased with gunshot wounds. Investigators said the case is being treated as a murder-suicide, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Chambers was a well-known sports reporter who later transitioned into education. She previously worked as a sports reporter for WBRC 6, joining the station in 2015 and becoming a familiar face on its popular “Sideline” segment, which highlighted high school sports across Alabama.

During her teaching career, Chambers received widespread recognition for her impact on students. She was named Alabama Scholastic Press Association Advisor of the Year in 2024 and helped lead Thompson High School’s broadcast program to multiple honors, including a journalism sustainability award, a SkillsUSA State Championship in Broadcast News, and two All-Alabama Overall Broadcast Awards.Alabaster City Schools Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers praised Chambers’ dedication, saying she made “meaningful connections” with students and left a lasting impression on the school community.
Chambers was also an accomplished athlete and runner. A graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, she competed on the school’s Division I track and field team and later completed the Boston Marathon three times, with plans to run again in 2026.
Police said the couple’s young son was safely removed from the home and is now in care. Authorities have not released further details as the investigation continues.
