The Chicago community has come together in an outpouring of support following the unexpected death of Tom Durkin, a devoted husband and father of three who passed away on Dec. 11, 2025.
A GoFundMe campaign launched in his memory has raised more than $180,000, surpassing its original $150,000 goal. The fundraiser, titled “In Loving Memory of Tom Durkin,” was organized by Kelly Nagle of Chicago to help support Durkin’s family as they navigate the sudden loss.
Durkin is survived by his wife, Rachel Durkin, and their three children — Laney, an eighth grader; Tommy, a seventh grader; and Kenzie, who is four years old.
“Tom and Rach have been together since they met over twenty years ago at Eastern Illinois,” the fundraiser states. “They have three beautiful children. Tom built his legacy on the South Side as the family guy — selfless, always helping others, and lighting up every room with his smile and music.”
Organizers described Durkin’s passing as one met with “unimaginable sadness,” noting that the funds raised will go toward ensuring Rachel and the children are supported while they focus on healing as a family.
Friends, neighbors, and loved ones across Chicago have continued to share memories and donate, reflecting the deep impact Durkin had on those around him and the strength of the community rallying behind his family.
