Holly Johnson Charged with First-Degree Murder of Chicago Mom During School Drop-Off

Quadajah “Holly” Johnson has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Romeca Meeks-Blackmon, a 31-year-old mother fatally shot shortly after dropping off her 6-year-old son at school in Chicago’s South Loop.

The tragic incident occurred on September 8 near Cermak Road and State Street. According to Fox 32 reporter Tia Ewing, Johnson and Blackmon shared children with the same man, who was present at the scene during the shooting. Johnson was initially taken into custody but released shortly afterward, prompting questions from the victim’s family.

Just before the attack, Blackmon had said goodbye to her young son with a kiss and a cheerful send-off for school. Her last social media post featured a photo of a handwritten note she packed in her son’s lunchbox—a poignant reminder of her love and care. Moments later, a confrontation outside the school escalated, and Blackmon was shot in the face. Police scanner audio captured reports of a fight and a woman seen carrying a gun.

Blackmon’s family has expressed confusion and frustration over why charges were not immediately filed against Johnson. Records show Johnson had filed multiple protective orders against Blackmon dating back to December 2024 and as recently as this past summer, which the family believes were attempts to create a false paper trail against her.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Johnson now faces first-degree murder charges, and the case has drawn widespread attention in the Chicago community.
