Justin Burton Identified as Victim in Britton Tavern Shooting; Suspect Maclean Murt Arrested in Fishers, Indiana

A fatal shooting inside Britton Tavern in Fishers, Indiana, early Monday morning has left one man dead and another in custody on a preliminary murder charge. Fishers Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Justin Burton, who was found shot inside the bar around 2:45 a.m. Officers responded to the scene at 14005 Mundy Drive after receiving reports of gunfire.

Burton was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. According to police, the suspect — 30-year-old Maclean Murt — was taken into custody without incident shortly after officers arrived. Authorities believe the shooting was an isolated event and say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Witnesses who were inside the bar at the time have said the incident may have stemmed from an argument over a vape and that Burton had been celebrating his birthday. However, Fishers Police have not confirmed those details, and investigators have not released information about what led to the deadly altercation.

Sgt. Angela Ellison, spokesperson for the Fishers Police Department, emphasized that shootings in the area are “very rare” and noted that Britton Tavern has operated for many years without significant issues. She described the incident as “very tragic,” adding, “A man lost his life.”

The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office will make the final determination on Burton’s cause of death. Police say their investigation remains active, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
