Kaila Partlo Accused of Acting as Getaway Driver in Shooting Involving Her Daughter’s Boyfriend

A 36-year-old Flint woman, Kaila Partlo, has been accused of acting as the getaway driver in a shooting that targeted her own daughter’s teenage boyfriend, according to law enforcement officials.

Police say the incident occurred on October 27 in Buena Vista Township. Investigators allege that Partlo drove her 16-year-old boyfriend and her daughter’s 16-year-old boyfriend from Oxford to the Saginaw area. Authorities say Partlo was upset over how the teen victim had allegedly been treating her daughter.

According to investigators, Partlo instructed the victim to exit the vehicle near the intersection of Irving Park Boulevard and Irving Park Place to place business cards on a fence for her cleaning company, Jane of All Trades. While doing so, police say the teen turned around and saw Partlo’s boyfriend leaning out of the vehicle with a firearm.

Authorities allege that at least one shot was fired toward the victim’s head. The teen was not struck after dropping to the ground, police said.

Investigators say Partlo and her boyfriend then fled the scene, leaving the victim behind. The teen’s cellphone was reportedly left inside the vehicle, forcing him to seek help from a nearby resident to contact emergency services.

Using phone-tracking data and Flock camera footage, police traced the vehicle back to Partlo’s residence in Flint. Officers later recovered the victim’s damaged phone near a curb on Robinwood Avenue, according to investigators.

Detectives say Partlo initially accepted responsibility for the incident but later changed her account, telling investigators she did not want her boyfriend to face legal trouble. A 9mm handgun, believed to be the weapon involved, was recovered from a safe inside her home. Police say Partlo purchased the firearm in 2020, though it was not registered.

Authorities also allege that Partlo’s teenage boyfriend admitted to destroying the victim’s phone and discarding it while fleeing the area.

The case remains under investigation, and officials say additional charges or developments are possible.
