Jazalynn Caldwell remains hospitalized after being injured in an early morning fire at Woodley Terrace Apartments in Montgomery, according to authorities.
Montgomery fire and rescue crews were dispatched to the apartment complex in the 3900 block of Woodley Road just after 8 a.m. following reports of a possible structure fire.
When first responders arrived, they encountered a two-story residential building with heavy smoke and visible flames. Due to the intensity of the fire, officials quickly escalated the response to a second alarm, bringing additional firefighting units to the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the fire resulted in one fatality — an 8-year-old boy — and left two other individuals critically injured. Jazalynn Caldwell was among those transported to a local hospital for treatment. Her current condition has not been publicly detailed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Montgomery Fire officials have not released further information as investigators continue working to determine what led to the incident.
