Family and friends are demanding answers after Prashant Sreekumar, a 44-year-old father from Edmonton, died following a prolonged wait in the emergency room at Grey Nuns Hospital.
According to reports, Sreekumar began experiencing severe chest pain while at work on December 22 and was driven to the hospital by a client. After being checked in at triage, he reportedly spent more than eight hours in the waiting area. During that time, hospital staff offered Tylenol, and an ECG was performed, but his family said they were told no serious concerns had been detected.
When Sreekumar was finally called into the treatment area, he collapsed almost immediately. He was pronounced dead from apparent cardiac arrest. He leaves behind his wife and three children, aged three, 10, and 14.
Family members and friends have expressed shock and frustration, questioning how someone with severe chest pain could wait so long without adequate care. Covenant Health, which operates Grey Nuns Hospital, confirmed that the case is under review by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and offered condolences to the family.
The investigation is ongoing, and the family hopes it will clarify the circumstances surrounding Sreekumar’s death.
