Rice University is mourning the loss of Claire Tracy, a sophomore finance major from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, who died on Sunday, December 7, according to campus officials.
Tracy, a student at Wiess College, was remembered as a bright, driven, and deeply engaged member of the Rice community. In a campuswide email, Bridget Gorman, dean of undergraduates, expressed profound sadness and extended heartfelt condolences to Tracy’s family, friends, and all who knew her. Tracy was pursuing a major in finance and a minor in entrepreneurship and was widely admired for her ambition, creativity, and leadership.
A standout both inside and outside the classroom, Tracy played on the Rice women’s soccer team during her freshman year. She remained active in several student organizations, including Rice Women in Business, the Social Impact Committee, and the Rice Eclipse Finance Board. Friends and peers described her as someone who formed genuine connections and contributed her skills generously.
Before coming to Rice, Tracy excelled academically and athletically at Brookfield Academy, where she led her soccer team to multiple championships and earned numerous honors for her performance and dedication.Wiess College Magister Flavio Cunha shared support resources with students to help them navigate their grief, and Rice President Reggie DesRoches opened his annual State of the University address with a moment of silence in Tracy’s honor. Across campus, she is being remembered for her enthusiasm, kindness, and the positive mark she left on the university community.
Claire Tracy is survived by her parents, Sean and Tammy, and her two siblings in Wisconsin. She leaves behind a legacy of academic excellence, athletic achievement, and meaningful involvement at Rice University.
