Target Worker Jeanie Beeman Berated by Michelea Ponce Over ‘Freedom’ Shirt as Donations Top $175K

A viral confrontation inside a Target store in Chico, California, has sparked national backlash and an outpouring of support after Jeanie Beeman, an elderly Target employee, was verbally harassed on camera by Michelea Ponce for wearing a Charlie Kirk “Freedom” T-shirt — leading to a fundraiser that has now raised more than $175,000.

The incident occurred Monday when Ponce, a TikTok user later identified as an Enloe Health nurse, recorded herself confronting Beeman while the employee was stocking merchandise. In the video, which has been viewed millions of times across TikTok and X, Ponce can be heard hurling profanities and accusing Beeman of supporting racism solely based on the shirt she was wearing.

Beeman remained calm throughout the exchange, responding, “I’m sorry, but I’m not going to engage in an argument with you. Have a nice day,” before walking away.

As the footage spread, public reaction turned sharply against Ponce, who subsequently deleted her social media accounts. Enloe Health later confirmed that Chico police are investigating the incident after the hospital received a large volume of calls tied to the video.

The Chico Police Department said it is “actively investigating with local partners,” though no charges have been announced.

In response, supporters launched a GiveSendGo fundraiser for Beeman, initially aiming to fund a vacation. The campaign quickly surpassed its $100,000 goal, later raising the target to $200,000. As of the latest update, donations had exceeded $175,000.

Organizers described Beeman as a “hardworking and dignified employee” who was unfairly targeted in a public shaming attempt.

The incident has reignited debate over free speech, workplace attire, and social media–driven harassment, with many condemning the filming and online humiliation of service workers.

Target has not publicly commented on the matter.
