Maria Carla Rodriguez: Florida Mom Arrested for Allegedly Beating Son With Broom, Fork Over Unfinished Chores

A Miami-Dade mother, Maria Carla Rodriguez, is behind bars after allegedly attacking her teenage son with a broomstick, a fork, and cleaning chemicals after becoming angry over unfinished household chores, according to police reports.

Rodriguez, 37, was arrested Monday night following the alleged incident at the family’s Miami-area home, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

According to an arrest report obtained by Local10.com, Rodriguez woke her son around 9:20 p.m. after discovering he had not completed his assigned chores. She ordered the teen to the kitchen to wash dishes, where the confrontation escalated.

Police say that after the boy accidentally dropped a fork, Rodriguez allegedly picked it up and threw it at his head. The teen was able to dodge the utensil, at which point Rodriguez reportedly grabbed a broom and struck him multiple times on the arms and chest, leaving visible bruises.

Authorities further allege that Rodriguez then sent her son to the bathroom to clean the toilet, where she sprayed a cleaning product directly into his face, causing his eyes to become red and swollen.

Officers observed multiple bruises on the boy’s body and irritation to his eyes when they arrived at the scene, according to the report.

Rodriguez denied assaulting her son, telling police the two had only argued about chores and his time spent with friends. She also claimed she did not know how he sustained the bruises or eye injuries.

Rodriguez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She remains in custody at the Miami-Dade County Jail, with bond yet to be set.

The investigation remains ongoing.
