Daricka M. Moore Killed Kiyla, Daughter of Lashanna Guines, in West Point Shooting, Clay County Authorities Say

Daricka M. Moore has been identified by authorities as the suspect responsible for a deadly shooting in West Point, Mississippi, that claimed the life of Kiyla, the daughter of Lashanna Guines, during a violent rampage in Clay County.

According to law enforcement officials, Moore, a 24-year-old Mississippi man, killed six people across three separate locations during a Friday night shooting spree in a rural area of northeast Mississippi. The victims included Moore’s father, brother, uncle, 7-year-old cousin, as well as a local church pastor and the pastor’s brother.

Moore was arrested just before midnight at a police roadblock in Cedarbluff, following an extensive manhunt that involved dozens of local, state, and federal law enforcement officers. Authorities said he was taken into custody without incident.

As of Saturday, Moore was being held without bail at the Clay County Jail in West Point on multiple murder charges. He is expected to make an initial appearance before a judge on Monday.

Clay County District Attorney Scott Colom told The Associated Press that prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty in the case. Colom said Moore will likely be appointed a public defender during his first court appearance. If the charges are elevated to capital murder, Moore would be legally ineligible for bail under Mississippi law.

Among the victims was Kiyla, whose death has devastated her family and drawn an outpouring of support from the community. Her mother, Lashanna Guines, shared a deeply emotional message describing her grief and disbelief.

“I’m finally getting enough strength to even make this post,” Guines wrote. “I never thought I would be going through this or even making funeral arrangements for one of my children — especially my baby girl. My heart is shattered into pieces, and I’m hurting, but Kiyla brought so much joy to my life and so many others.”

Guines described her daughter as “the sweetest girl in the world” and asked for continued prayers as her family struggles to process the loss.

Authorities have not released a motive for the shootings. The investigation remains ongoing.
