Authorities have identified Jamaal Jones as the suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man known as Peewee Jrok IMB, who was found dead early Wednesday morning in the Central West End, police said.
The victim was identified by University City Police as Jardyn Walker, who had been reported missing the day before after failing to return home from work. Walker was last seen delivering packages in the University City area and was expected to ride home with his sister from the Amazon Hazelwood plant, but never arrived.
St. Louis police were called to the 4200 block of Olive Street around 1 a.m. Wednesday after Walker’s cellphone was pinged to the area. Officers located Walker inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the homicide may be connected to an earlier shots-fired call in the same area. Police said a vehicle was seen leaving the scene shortly after the shooting.
That vehicle was later stopped near Boyle Avenue and Lindell Boulevard, where an officer observed weapons inside the car and took a suspect into custody.
Later Wednesday afternoon, authorities announced that Jamaal Jones, 27, had been formally charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and tampering with evidence in connection with Walker’s death.
According to charging documents, a witness identified Jones as the shooter. Police said Jones admitted to firing the gun, claiming he feared for his life during the encounter. Investigators also reported that Jones was found with shell casings in his pocket at the time of his arrest.
Another witness told police they heard gunshots as Walker was leaving an apartment shortly before he was killed. The vehicle Walker was last known to be driving was found at the scene of the shooting.
The case has shaken the Central West End community, as investigators continue working to piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as the case proceeds through the court system.
