More than $7,000 has been raised to support Noah Epperson, a 20-year-old man who remains hospitalized after being brutally assaulted in a Circle K parking lot, an attack that police say was led by Cooper Riley Camferdam, an 18-year-old from Benton.
Camferdam was arrested by Hot Springs police and charged with first-degree battery following the violent incident, which occurred just before midnight on January 17 at the Circle K gas station on Malvern Avenue.
Officers responding to reports of a large fight found Epperson suffering from severe injuries, including a skull fracture and bleeding on both sides of his brain. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in intensive care, authorities said.
Investigators said the altercation spilled over from a nearby party and escalated rapidly in the parking lot. Videos of the incident, which later circulated widely on social media, show multiple people involved in the brawl. Police identified Camferdam as the primary suspect after reviewing footage and receiving public tips.According to investigators, the videos depict Camferdam striking Epperson with a belt and actively participating in the assault as others looked on.
A warrant for Camferdam’s arrest was issued Monday, and he was taken into custody with assistance from Benton police. He was booked into the Garland County Detention Center on January 19.
Under Arkansas law, first-degree battery is classified as a Class Y felony, carrying a potential sentence of 10 to 40 years or life in prison.
Police have indicated the investigation is ongoing and said additional arrests are possible. Authorities also warned that individuals who filmed the attack instead of attempting to help the victim could face charges for failure to render assistance, though no such charges have been announced at this time.
As Epperson continues to fight for recovery, community members have rallied around him. A GoFundMe campaign, organized by a friend, has raised more than $7,000 to help cover medical expenses and support his family during his hospitalization.
Anyone with additional information related to the assault is urged to contact Hot Springs police as the investigation continues.
